Shaq Shares Surgery Details After Causing Panic With Hospital Photo

The NBA retiree is checking in with his supporters after undergoing major surgery.

Nothing can keep Shaquille O'Neal from joking around—not even something as serious as hip replacement surgery.

The NBA on TNT host recently made light of his medical situation by checking in with his loyal fans and even sharing a joke about his recent surgical procedure.

On March 20, the sports legend hopped on Twitter to share that he's in good spirits and doing well following the medical operation, posting a comedic throwback photo of himself in his Los Angeles Lakers uniform showing off his backside. The image was edited into a video depicting a distorted view of his rear end, set to the tune of a remix of Adele's "Hello," which played over the footage.

"To all the people who are worried and concerned. first off, let me say thank you," the basketball Hall-of-Famer wrote, before joking, "And lastly no need to worry, just had to get some BBL WORK AKA #hipreplacement. Thanks and love you all. but no need to worry and yes i'm fine."

"BBL work" refers to a popularized cosmetic procedure known as a Brazilian Butt Lift, which transfers fat from the hips, abdomen, lower back and thighs into the buttocks, according to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.

Shaq initially scared fans by posting a pic on social media from a hospital bed, with several sending in worried reactions to the snapshot, which included very little context at the time.

As Parade previously reported, the former pro-basketball star underwent surgery over the weekend for a hip injury, which he spoke about on the March 9 episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq, noting that he was aiming to return to work on April 16.
