Interior design trends come and go. But some trends, like the craze of limewash walls or the prominence of checkerboard prints, seem like they’re here to stay. So it didn’t seem like a coincidence when more homeowners included scalloped detailing throughout their homes in 2023.

Scallops are rounded, fluid shapes and add playful touches to walls, furniture, and home accessories. The organic form complements colorful spaces (we’ve even seen all-black scallops!) and seamlessly juxtaposes straight lines to bring fun to a space. 1. A Scalloped Table Brings the Drama to an Already Jaw-Dropping Room

Situated in the middle of the “green” room in Julia Arceri’s European-inspired Houston home is a round table. But it’s no ordinary circular table — the edges are scalloped, which makes the table the room’s focal point. It perfectly complements and juxtaposes the hard lines in the rug and moldings.

When Laura Harstein moved into her colorful, eclectic home, it wasn’t what it is today. Instead, it was a blank slate. However, soon enough, Harstein added personality through unique paint and fun furniture, like a scalloped-edge chair.

8. Painted Scallops Are a Fun Design Pop in This Colorful Nursery

The scalloped details in Shona East’s daughters’ room in their colorful home are never-ending (in the best possible way). Whether it’s the painted scalloped detailing framing the window or the bright yellow scalloped shelves, the shape makes the space feel happier.

10. Black Scalloped Details Add Drama and Fun to a Kid’s Room

The painted scallop designs extend into the nursery in Shona East’s color-drenched home. This particular use proves that the design is playful — they’re painted black and yet are still whimsical and light. East’s decision to juxtapose the curved and straight lines makes for a lot of visual fun, too.

11. Floral Patterns Perfectly Pair with a Scalloped-Edge Table

Floral patterns are playful and fun, so it’s no surprise that the decor in the living room of Ellen Mallernee’s 1918 cottage seamlessly blends with a scalloped table. “My house is a direct representation of who I am. Look around, and you see all the things I love — from floral patterns to scallop trim to nautical accessories, and antiques and textiles I’ve collected over the years,” Mallernee wrote at the time of the tour.

12. The Painted Scallops on These Dining Room Pendants Are Eye-Catching

The scallop party never ends in Shona East’s colorful home — thank gosh! Above her dining room table are two pendants with scalloped edging on the bottom. “It was so liberating being able to experiment with color and having permission to paint murals, scallops, and stripes all over the house,” East said at the time of the home tour.
