*This* Shape Was So Popular in People’s Homes This Year
Interior design trends come and go. But some trends, like the craze of limewash walls or the prominence of checkerboard prints, seem like they’re here to stay. So it didn’t seem like a coincidence when more homeowners included scalloped detailing throughout their homes in 2023.
Scallops are rounded, fluid shapes and add playful touches to walls, furniture, and home accessories. The organic form complements colorful spaces (we’ve even seen all-black scallops!) and seamlessly juxtaposes straight lines to bring fun to a space. There are so many clever and stylish ways to incorporate this shape into your home — below, find inspiration from real homeowners and renters.
1. A Scalloped Table Brings the Drama to an Already Jaw-Dropping Room
Situated in the middle of the “green” room in Julia Arceri’s European-inspired Houston home is a round table. But it’s no ordinary circular table — the edges are scalloped, which makes the table the room’s focal point. It perfectly complements and juxtaposes the hard lines in the rug and moldings.

2. A Scalloped Chair Is a Great Addition to This Maximalist Home
When Laura Harstein moved into her colorful, eclectic home, it wasn’t what it is today. Instead, it was a blank slate. However, soon enough, Harstein added personality through unique paint and fun furniture, like a scalloped-edge chair.

3. A Vintage Scalloped Swivel Chair Is the Perfect Greeter in This Apartment
Katie and Cody’s mid-century modern apartment in Los Angeles is brimming with gorgeous vintage finds. One such furniture gem is the scalloped swivel chair that greets visitors in their entryway. The mid-century modern chair pairs nicely with the gold gilded mirror.

5. There Are Scalloped-Details Galore in This Cottage
Scalloped details — like in the striped bathroom mirror, bathroom cabinets, and nursery shelves — add a modern, playful touch to Anne-Laure’s 300-year-old cottage. When the couple purchased the home, they sought a fixer-upper that boasted character. However, their renovations (including scalloped details) add even more personality to the space.

6. A Scalloped Pendant Brings Light and Style to a Parisian-Inspired Home
When designing her apartment in New York City’s Upper West Side neighborhood, Shelby Vanhoy looked to Paris. The home is filled with vintage pieces like the white scalloped pendant that hangs over the dining nook in her cozy home.

8. Painted Scallops Are a Fun Design Pop in This Colorful Nursery
Scallops are known for being playful, so it’s a no-brainer to display them in kids’ bedrooms. In Mica’s daughter’s nursery in their colorful Tampa home, scalloped edging lines the top of the wall paneling. The scallops are painted on and are an eye-catching detail that’s so much fun.

10. Black Scalloped Details Add Drama and Fun to a Kid’s Room
The painted scallop designs extend into the nursery in Shona East’s color-drenched home. 11. Floral Patterns Perfectly Pair with a Scalloped-Edge Table
Floral patterns are playful and fun, so it’s no surprise that the decor in the living room of Ellen Mallernee’s 1918 cottage seamlessly blends with a scalloped table. “My house is a direct representation of who I am. Look around, and you see all the things I love — from floral patterns to scallop trim to nautical accessories, and antiques and textiles I’ve collected over the years,” Mallernee wrote at the time of the tour.
