Shannon Purser Says Noah Centineo Was "So Sweet" About Her First On-Screen Kiss in "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser"

"He’s wonderful. He truly is. He’s such a poet."

When new rom-com Sierra Burgess Is a Loser drops on Netflix on Sept. 7, former Stranger Things actor Shannon Purser will have her first leading role. But that's not Shannon's only first with the film — she also experienced her first on-screen kiss ever, with none other than leading man of the moment, Noah Centineo.

In a new interview with Teen Vogue, Shannon talked about her role as Sierra, a smart, nerdy high school student who ends up catfishing Noah's Jamey (a star football player, of course) because she's insecure about her appearance.

Through several hijinks planned by Sierra and nemesis-turned-ally Veronica (Kristen Froseth), Jamey and Sierra do end up kissing IRL in the movie. And as ET previously reported, those moments were her first on-screen kisses (Barb didn't quite make it long enough to develop love interests in Stranger Things.)

Speaking to Teen Vogue, Shannon addressed Noah's real-life helpfulness with the scene. "Noah was also my first on-screen kiss, which I was very terrified about at the time. And he was so sweet about it," she said. "What you see is what you get with him. I feel like, especially in Hollywood, you meet people with ulterior motives, who are trying to get something from you. Noah was just like genuinely kind and lovable from day one."

Shannon is also well-aware that all of social media seems to think of him as their internet boyfriend. "It is so wild to see the entire world fall in love with him in the span of two weeks," she told Teen Vogue. "But he’s wonderful. He truly is. He’s such a poet."

We can't wait to fall in love with Sierra and Jamey just like we did Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky.
