  • Shannen Doherty, 50, shared a new health update to Instagram as she battles stage IV breast cancer.

  • In the post, the Beverly Hills 90210 actress posted photos from recent scans and called herself a “#cancerslayer.”

  • Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She went into remission in 2017, and her cancer returned as stage IV in 2020.

Shannen Doherty is staying strong amid her battle with stage IV breast cancer. In a new Instagram post, the Charmed star shared a health update alongside new photos from recent scans.

Doherty looks optimistic as she smiles beneath a face mask in one photo, and in the other, she shows off a heart embellished bandage from her scans. She called herself a “cancer slayer” in the caption.

“Early morning doctors visit for scans. Blurry eyed. Hair askew but the new bandage wraps made me smile! #cancerslayer,” she wrote.

Fans showered the actress with support in the comments section. “One person commented, Sending love and strength !❤️,” while another person wrote, “Sending positive vibes.”

Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In 2017, the star announced she had entered remission, but then in an emotional interview with Good Morning America, Doherty shared that her cancer had returned as stage IV in 2020.

“I definitely have days where I say ‘Why me?’ And then I go, ‘Well, why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this?’ None of us do,” she told GMA at the time.

Since her diagnosis, Doherty has kept fans updated on her health, taking to Instagram to share news on treatment and how she’s feeling. In October 2021, the actress shared more about her journey in an Instagram post, which included a handful of photos from various stages of her treatment and recovery.

“For breast cancer awareness month, I’d like to share more of my own personal journey from my first diagnosis to my second,” Doherty wrote in the caption. “Is it all pretty? NO, but it’s truthful, and my hope in sharing is that we all become.”

Doherty said she feels like she has a responsibility to educate others on breast health. “I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut [through] the fear and face whatever might be in front of you,” she said.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), stage IV breast cancer is considered “incurable” after spreading to other areas of the body. But treatments such as chemotherapy and hormone therapy can slow and even shrink tumors.

Doherty shared that remaining optimistic is essential. “I cheered myself up by putting on funny pajamas that my friend Kristy gave me. Did they actually cheer me up? Yes!!” the star continued. “I looked ridiculous, and in that ridiculousness, I was able to laugh at myself. Finding humor helped get me [through] what seemed impossible. I hope we all find humor in the impossible.”

We’re sending Doherty so much love as she continues to go through, and share details of, her cancer battle.
