Twain is married to Frédéric Thiébaud. The pair tied the knot on New Year's Day 2011 in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in a small ceremony in front of 40 family members and close friends, her rep confirmed to PEOPLE.

Twain explained in a 2009 letter to fans (via PEOPLE), “[He] has been the most constant companion and support for both Eja and I. And having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time and under the same extreme circumstances, he understands me better than anyone.”
She added, “We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We’ve become stronger and closer through it all, as have our children, Eja and Johanna, Fred’s 8-year-old daughter.”
Frédéric and Twain confirmed their engagement in December 2010 and married on New Year's Day 2011.

Mutt Lange allegedly left Shania Twain for Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Twain said she had no idea that Lange and Marie-Anne were involved until after Lange filed for divorce. Frédéric said in an interview that he found out in a "concrete way" that Lange and Marie-Anne had been romantically involved and told them to tell Twain. When they refused, he told Twain herself.
