Shakira Went Full 'Matrix' in Leather Shorts and Matching Over-the-Knee Boots

Oh, and a corseted bustier.

Shakira may be the expert in hip-shaking and vocal vibrato, but the global superstar also knows a thing or two about fashion. On Wednesday, the Colombian star wore one of the tallest pairs of platform boots, maybe ever, when attending a panel at the Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami. And to compliment the grungy boots, Shakira went full leather on top for an OOTD that screamed The Matrix, minus the trench coat.

Shakira took the stage in a black leather corset bodysuit tucked into matching pleated high-waited shorts with a long, thick ribbed belt, both from Alex Perry. Perhaps the most noteworthy part of her head-to-toe black look were her sky-high Giuseppe Zanotti over-the-knee boots. She accessorized with a gold and pink chain-link choker and several matching rings. The singer and dancer wore her caramel hair in curls that cascaded down to her hips (which do not lie), and she kept her glam simple with a feathered lash and pink lip.

During the interview, Shakira spoke to Leila Cobo, Billboard Latin/Español’s chief content officer, about how she has gained more confidence in her appearance and fashion sense over the years.

“Before, I suffered if a hair stood up, I suffered if my eyeliner ran down," she explained. "Nowadays, it’s not that I care less about things, but I have a better perspective. I can prioritize what really matters to me, and what doesn’t matter so much. I put more focus and attention on substance."

Although she's had a shift in perspective, Shakira went on to explain that it hasn't compromised her attention to detail (which is evident in her iconic performances like the Super Bowl halftime show or her 2023 VMAs career-spanning medley).

"I’ve also always had a lot of focus on detail and still do. Maybe more so now," she said. "But it helps a lot to have a team that understands you, that you can rely on. It’s not something you count on from the beginning, it’s something you build up over time as well. Your criteria; it’s built up over time.”
