Here's Why Shakira's Super Bowl Performance Outfit Looked Very Familiar

Shakira gave fans an unexpected throwback with the outfit she wore during her Super Bowl performance.

When the 43-year-old singer stepped out onto the field, she stunned in a two-piece costume that featured a sparkly red crop top with plenty of fringe as well as matching boots. She paired the outfit with matching wrist pieces and flowing tendrils to top everything off, and the look was an absolute spectacle.

But if you thought it looked more than a little familiar, you're on the right track. As it turns out, this Super Bowl look appeared to be an homage to Shakira's character Gazelle from the 2016 Disney film Zootopia.

When viewed side-by-side, the resemblance is actually uncanny. There are a few small differences, of course, like the silver belt adorned with baubles that Gazelle is wearing in the film. Otherwise, however, it really appeared that Shakira hit the field in full Zootopia cosplay.

It's nearly identical to the character based on Shakira's likeness that the pop star portrayed in the film. The Zootopian singer was a "predator rights activist," and was heard promoting her new single "Try Everything" throughout the movie, which is part of the film's main soundtrack.

"Zootopia is a unique place," Gazelle, voiced by Shakira, said in the film. "It's a crazy, beautiful city where we celebrate our differences. This is not the Zootopia I know. The Zootopia I know is better than this. We don't just blindly assume blame. We don't know why these attacks keep happening, but it is irresponsible to label all predators as savages. We cannot let fear divide us. Please, give me back the Zootopia I love."

Was this an intentional homage or a fun coincidence? Either way, we love a Disney throwback, and Zootopia is a highly underrated film that's definitely worth checking out, especially if you were left reeling after Shakira's explosive Super Bowl outing with J.Lo.
