Shailene Woodley’s Mug Shot Is as Beautiful as Her Message
Shailene Woodley might want to consider the Morton County Jail for her next photo shoot, because that lighting was made for her face.
The actress was arrested on Monday for criminal trespassing while she was protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline in Bismarck, N.D. Shortly after her arrest, her mug shot was released. This is usually where the cringing comes in, but unlike most mug shots, Woodley’s is beautiful. Not one hair is out of place in her French-braid pigtails with a side part, and her skin looks flawless under that harsh fluorescent light. It looks as if she’s only wearing a little eye makeup, but she really doesn’t need any more than that. And while this isn’t the wardrobe we’d choose, the orange jumpsuit isn’t washing her out or revealing any unflattering undertones.
In other words, Woodley owned the mug shot.
Another thing she owned? That protest. “I am Shailene Woodley. I am a 24-year-old woman who cares about not only the generations that are alive right now but the generations to come,” the Snowden star said as she filmed an interview. “And we’re here to protect clean water, and we’re here to protect the land and to reconnect humanity to our roots, which is the Earth, which is recognizing that we cannot help the Earth, we cannot do anything to and for the Earth, until we realize that we are made of the Earth. So we have to start with ourselves.”
Bundled up, with a scarf around her head and neck — but not hiding some very cool shell earrings — the actress protested with 200 people against the 1,172-mile pipeline that would stretch from the oil-rich Bakken Formation southeast into South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. The problem is that the project, close to historically significant Native American tribal lands, will harm the environment, according to CNN.
Woodley was arrested for trespassing, and she streamed video of the arrest on Facebook live. “I don’t know if you guys just heard me, but I was walking back to my RV, which is right there, so that we can go back to camp peacefully, and they grabbed me by my jacket and said that I was not allowed to continue,” Woodley said in the video. “And they had giant guns and batons and zip ties, and they’re not letting me go.”
In the video you can hear an officer saying, “You are going to be placed under arrest for criminal trespassing.” When Woodley asks the deputy why she’s being arrested but no one else is, he confirms it is because she was “identified,” aka famous.
Woodley has since been released. However, she did get a great photo out of it — and put the word out to her 1 million plus Facebook fans.
