For 130 years, Sferra has been supplying the world with gossamer linens and bedding. At the forefront of luxury bed-making, the brand introduced the concept of 1,020 thread count sheets and has recently further expanded into other home accessories. Now, for the first time in its history, customers will experience the brand's dedication to at-home luxury and lounging under one roof.

A three-story Italianate-style townhouse nestled in New York City's Flatiron neighborhood now serves as the brand's first-ever flagship location. Inside, a treasure trove of signature Sferra bedding, bath essentials, rugs, loungewear, and other decorative accessories awaits worldwide clients. The products are placed throughout in rooms that mimic actual homes, rather than a stale department store (thanks partly to Studio Monteleone & Associates who helped design the store). And, to honor their long heritage, there is a display of archival items that range from Sferra's early days in the late 1800s to the present day.

Aside from the expansive selection, the townhouse opening is a significant nod to

Sferra's history and relationship with New York City. The company was founded in 1981 in New York City by Gennaro Sferra and his brother whose family has owned textile mills in the Alpine foothills of northern Italy for over three centuries. Sferra was birthed following a journey on the cross-Atlantic steamer.

"New York City has played an important role in Sferra's illustrious 130+ years-old history," Michelle Klein, CEO and President of Sferra, tells Town & Country. " It was in New York City that our founders, the Sferra brothers, decided to settle when they arrived from Italy at the turn of the last century. As such, it was the perfect location for our first-ever flagship. We are extremely proud to bring this story full circle with the opening of the Sferra Townhouse."

This move to transform a flagship into an experiential store follows a growing retail trend. Earlier this year, luxury porcelain brand Lladro moved their New York City flagship from Madison Avenue to the Meatpacking district, a space which includes an interactive VR experience. Last month, Loro Piana opened up a new boutique in Palo Alto and debuted special garments that come with NFTs. Bergdorf Goodman even reintroduced Linda's Shop on the department store's 4th floor alongside a new personal shopping complex that is designed with elegant private spaces for shoppers.
