Sex Education is getting a fourth season.

Netflix announced a renewal for the hit teen comedy series, just more than one week after the show returned with its third season on September 17. After a 19-month wait from pandemic delays, fans quickly took to social media to applaud Season 3, which saw the students at Moordale Secondary rebel against their new authoritarian head teacher, played by Girls alum Jemima Kirke.

The streaming giant announced the show's renewal during its Tudum fan event on September 25. The short clip shows an alert for Moordale news, with the chyron reading, "Breaking news: Sex Education to return for Season 4" in all caps.

Though the series has a massive and devoted fan base, with 3.8 million Instagram followers, its continuation wasn't a sure thing. When asked whether there would be a Season 4, all the cast and crew, from show creator Laurie Nunn to lead actor Asa Butterfield (who plays Otis Milburn) himself, said that it was up to the fans' reaction to Season 3 and ultimately Netflix.

As for what Season 4 could be about, the Season 3 finale delivered a game-changing twist. After the students sabotaged the school's new squeaky-clean image at Open Day, they learned that Moordale would be closing due to lack of funds or investors. Otis and the gang, who were in their final term, would have to find new schools and redo their semesters to graduate. Though the students were forced to split up, brainiac Maeve went even further, pausing her new relationship with Otis to study abroad in America. There are so many possibilities Season 4 can take our fave characters, so we'll be eagerly awaiting their return.
