Several Florida cities among the healthiest places to live in the U.S.: report

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — In a time where health is overly promoted on the internet and arguably more important than ever, one analysis looked at what cities in the U.S. are considered the most healthy.

Health can mean many different things including physical, mental, social, and emotional.

Pinellas County beach makes Dr. Beach’s top 10 list for 2024

WalletHub compared the 180 most popular cities in the nation, looking at a wide range of factors including areas prioritizing their residents’ well-being, costs of medical visits, physical activity, and fruit and vegetable consumption.

So, does location matter to your health?

Here is how the top 10 healthiest cities overall stacked up in the U.S.

  • 1. San Francisco, California

  • 2. Honolulu, Hawaii

  • 3. Seattle, Washington

  • 4. San Diego, California

  • 5. Washington, D.C.

  • 6. Portland, Oregon

  • 7. Denver, Colorado

  • 8. Salt Lake City, Utah

  • 9. Scottsdale, Arizona

  • 10. Irvine, California

These cities all ranked fairly high in ranks including health care, food, fitness, and green space. San Francisco took the top spots in both food and green space, but lacked in the health care area, ranking 76.

Scottsdale ranked No. 1 in the fitness rank, while all the way down the list you can find Overland Park, Kansas claiming the health care rank as No. 1.

In Florida, several cities made the top 50, but others found themselves lower on the list.

  • 49. Fort Lauderdale

  • 59. Pembroke Pines

  • 63. St. Petersburg

  • 83. Jacksonville

  • 130. Port St. Lucie

  • 134. Tallahassee

  • 146. Cape Coral

  • 152. Hialeah

Tampa ranked No. 18 in the fitness rank, while it took the No. 28 spot for food, No. 70 for health care, and No. 58 for green space.

St Petersburg was a bit behind Tampa, taking the No. 54 spot for fitness, No. 57 for food, No. 67 for green space, and No. 94 for health care.
