Several Coke Products Recalled Over Potential Contamination

Certain Coca-Cola products have been recalled in various states as the result of potential contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration recalled nearly 2,000 cases of Diet Coke, Sprite and Fanta in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi due to "potential foreign material." The FDA has not specified what the unknown material is.

The impacted products include certain 12-ounce aluminum cans of Diet Coke, Sprite and Fanta in 12-pack fridge packs, which are the long, rectangular cardboard boxes with cutouts on one side to dispense the cans.

The products were pulled from shelves back in November, but consumers in the affected three states are advised to check their homes and discard any products that match the recalled product details.

The Diet Coke cans have a best by date of 01/29/24 with lot no. JAN2924MBD3, and UPC no. 49000028911; Fanta's are best by 07/29/24 with lot no. JUL2924MBD3 and UPC 49000030730; the Sprite cans are best by 07/29/24 with lot no. JUL2924MBD3 and UPC 49000028928.

A representative for Coca-Cola confirmed to PEOPLE that "all recall activities in the local markets are complete," and that "No impacted product remains in the market."

The soda recall comes in the wake of more recall news, as Tesla also just announced a huge recall of more than 2 million vehicles across the U.S.

The decision follows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's investigation of around 1,000 accidents that occurred when the Autopilot partially automated driving system was in use.

The recall will reportedly update the software and fix the issues with the Autopilot system, including an increase in warnings and alerts to drivers and a limit on areas where Autopilot is not safe to use.
