Serena Williams's New Ombré Ponytail Is the Longest She's Ever Worn Her Hair

There's never a time Serena Williams is not living her best life, but the past couple of days have seemed especially enviable. Seemingly always working — whether she's on the tennis court, behind the scenes at her clothing line, or being a mom to two-year-old daughter, Alexis — Williams has been hanging out on a yacht in Miami with sister Venus since Friday, getting some much-deserved downtime. Her head, however, is hard at work supporting what may very well be the longest ponytail ever spotted on the iconic athlete.

Over the course of a few Instagram posts, we can see that the braids Williams was recently wearing are now gone, replaced by an extremely long ponytail — we're talking butt-length. And considering it's pulled up and styled in beachy waves, her hair would look even longer it was worn down and styled in one of her go-to smoother, straighter finishes. In addition to the length, the ponytail stands out thanks to its color: a high-contrast ombré that shifts from dark brown at the roots to a golden blonde about a foot beneath where it's tied, creating an almost dip-dyed look.

For the first couple of yacht photos and clips Williams posted, she didn't mention anything about her hair in the captions. "I ain’t got Yacht type," she wrote in the first, but the photo was all about her hair. She's leaning over mid-dance-move, her ponytail blowing beautifully in the breeze. Come Sunday morning, however, she finally addressed her new look with a photo providing the clearest view yet of the ponytail as she stretches: "Morning warmups with Trixie (this ponytail is so EXTRA I had to name her)." She also tagged Lustrous Mane, a company that creates and installs high-end extensions.

Williams has worn super-long ponytails before — like her 2019 Oscars look — though none quite so extra-super-duper-long as this new one. It's no surprise she went for an ombré look, either, as she's been known rock a gradient look, too. Whether or not the ponytail makes it off the yacht and back into her work life is yet to be seen, though we have to admit, it would be pretty epic to see her on the court with this gorgeous hair flowing behind her.
