Serena Williams Explains Why She Didn't Celebrate Valentine's Day

From Cosmopolitan

While Kenny G is likely still stuck in Kim Kardashian's living room as part of an elaborate Valentine's Day gesture, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are giving a hard pass to the holiday and all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it.

This morning, Serena took to Twitter to share that instead of celebrating Valentine's Day, she chose to spend the day with her girlfriends making pottery. In the caption, she wrote, "I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, so it was nice to have a girls day. Having @alexisohanian be supportive and understand is one of a kind. I'm so fortunate for him to get it and respect my beliefs."

True, many people don't celebrate the "Hallmark holiday" because they think it's fake or they're into celebrating their love for someone else every day of the year, but Serena's reasoning is based in her religious beliefs. Serena is a Jehovah's Witness, which means there are some holidays she cannot celebrate, according to the religion's official site. For them, some holidays and celebrations are strictly in violation of the Bible, while deciding to celebrate other holidays is a personal choice. When deciding which ones they want to celebrate, they just have to try to "maintain a clear conscience before God and men."

Even though Serena doesn't celebrate certain holiday's, one thing that's super important in her religion is to not force others to make the same decision. Her husband isn't a Jehovah's Witness, but her caption made it clear that he's still super supportive of her religion and her doing her own thing yesterday. If that's not love, IDK what is.
