Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian Also Made ‘Humans of New York’: Here’s What He Said
What’s hot, new and rising. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds weren’t the only dynamic duo to encounter Humans of New York’s Brandon Stanton inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, May 1. Future spouses Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, who adorably made their public debut on the red carpet of the 2017 Met Gala, also shared a relationship anecdote with the force behind the popular blog.
In this case, Ohanian shared what he loves about his superstar athlete fiancee, who’s currently expecting their first child. “She has the biggest heart,” the Reddit co-founder replied of the world’s top-ranked female tennis player. “Everyone sees her success as an athlete, but all of that is layered on the size of her heart. She gives 100% of herself to everything she does: as a friend, as a lover, and soon, as a mother..”
On the red carpet, the tech guru and his future wife adorably posed for photos as she proudly cradled her growing baby bump.

The pair memorably got engaged over the holidays—he whisked her off to Rome and she said yes, later announcing and recounting the magical moment on Reddit. Just last month, Williams accidentally announced her pregnancy on Snapchat.

She said she discovered her blunder from a barrage of texts and calls from friends. During the same talk, Williams also shared some details about her surprise engagement to Ohanian. Not many people were aware that the two were even dating prior to the couple’s announcement.
“I never felt pressure to get married, and I can’t say I’m the marrying type. I love my life. I love my freedom,” she said. “I hear that kind of changes. I love my career, and I didn’t want anything to interfere with that. … When he proposed, I was almost angry. Not almost, I was angry because it was right in the middle of my training season and I thought, ‘I have to win the Australian Open.’”
