Will There Be a Sequel to the Downton Abbey Movie?

It hasn't even been two weeks since the hotly anticipated Downton Abbey film hit theaters, ahem, theatres, nationwide. But if you're anything like us, the first film likely left you antsing for a whole lot more of the Crawley family and to have some unsettled plot lines wrap up.

Well, brace yourself Abbey aficionados, there may be a chance for a future sequel. Executive producer Gareth Neame recently spoke with Variety prior to the film's release, saying, "We’ve got some ideas of things we would explore, if we were in the lucky position that that comes about, but it all depends on the next few days. We like to think we live in democratic times and it’s all about the fans and the audience—if they love this and watch it, well then, we’re out to do more."

The show's creator, Julian Fellowes, expressed to Variety that he is “open” to doing another film. “I don’t think we can talk seriously about that, until we see how this film is received,” said Fellowes. “And then, I’m sure there will be a conversation about it, though I couldn’t tell you which way it will go.”

As for us, after such a lengthy hiatus from some of our favorite television characters, we're simply grateful to have a first movie to see (again and again and again).

But if the masterminds behind the hit series and movie are game for another, well, the annoucement of such a sequel would sure make for a great gift from the hearth of Highclere Castle.
