Sensorio in Paso Robles has added a dramatic new light art installation just in time for its fifth anniversary.

On Friday, May 24, Sensorio will introduce DIMENSIONS, a new series of large-scale glowing geometric metal sculptures guests can walk through, to celebrate its anniversary, the art installation announced in a news release.

DIMENSIONS is the property’s fifth art installation, to go with the signature Field of Light and the three other features added in recent years, Light Towers, Gone Fishing and Fireflies, all created by artist Bruce Munro.

Sensorio was originally envisioned as a temporary installation when the Field of Light’s rolling hills of solar-powered fiberoptic stems debuted in 2019, but steady demand convinced the owners to make it permanent and expand with the new features, the release said.

Sensorio has hosted more than half a million visitors and is now a Paso Robles wine country tourist destination in its own right.

The new sculptures will be illuminated with immersive lights and music in a 33-minute show, according to the release.

DIMENSIONS is the latest collaboration by HYBYCOZO, a Los Angeles-based artist duo consisting of Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk who have created similar installations around the world, the release said.

“DIMENSIONS at Sensorio represents our exploration of the relationship between light and music, shadow and pattern, environment and form,” the artists said in the news release. “This installation orchestrates an interplay of geometry and space, designed to engage observers in a totally immersive experience.”

The exhibit’s music was composed by musician Alen Hulsey and is intended to draw guests into the unique colors and shapes of the sculpture, the release said.

“It’s more than a static art piece; it’s an environment that adapts to your presence,” Hulsey said in the release. “As you navigate through DIMENSIONS, you are not just a spectator but an integral part of the artistic experience.”

DIMENSIONS’ debut in May will be accompanied by live music, food and drink, and will include the rollout of a new performance stage area and other renovations, according to the release.

Sensorio general manager Ryan Hopple said guests can expect some family-friendly events on the calendar in the month leading up to the new artwork’s debut, including social media giveaways and a special Sunrise Yoga session May 5.

“It’s going to be a memorable night,” Hopple said in the release. “We almost can’t believe it’s been five years in Paso Robles, but when we look around at how much has changed, it feels so exciting. DIMENSIONS really pushes us in new directions with geometric shapes and new materials. We cannot wait for visitors old and new to see everything.”

More events, expansions coming this year

The DIMENSIONS debut isn’t the only new thing coming to Sensorio this year.

A SLO CAL Crafted makers market in collaboration with Visit SLO CAL will take place over Memorial Day weekend on May 25, with more celebratory events planned throughout the remainder of the year, the release said.

Another art exhibit created by Munro is on its way later in 2024, along with an expansion of the Terrace space to accommodate private parties.

Over the longer term, Sensorio is also looking to build an on-site hotel and conference center, the release said.
