"Sensible" Choice To Look At Road Gap Nearly Ends In Disaster

One of the most important things to do before riding a jump is to do a run-up with a brake check to help visualize the speed you need. Sometimes, however, this can go wrong.

Watch Andreas Theodorou nearly slide off the end of the wooden takeoff on an enormous road gap below after what turned out to be a sage warning from his friend Lachie Blair.

In this video, Lachie agrees with his friend Andreas that they should start with a runup. Unfortunately, the wood was wet they were barely able to stop and Andreas’s bike tumbled to the road below.

As it turns out, just looking at them as a sensible move can still be dangerous! Thankfully he did not fall off with it.

Wooden features in the wet are very dangerous. Rubber and wet wood are a very slippery combo. Builders in rainy climates like Coastal BC make sure to use rough edges of split cedar rather than milled wood because it provides more traction to the rider. Unfortunately, there is not much cedar available in the UK.
