Senior volunteers spruce up neighborhood around Barelas Senior Center

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Some senior citizens in Albuquerque took advantage of Friday’s beautiful weather to do a good deed and clean up the neighborhood. Senior volunteers from AmeriCorps got busy cleaning up litter and weeds in the neighborhood around the Barelas Senior Center.

They also patined some for their outdoor benches and planted some greenery. “Albuquerque and Bernalillo County have very large senior populations, populations over 55. These centers prevent them from becoming isolated. They offer them transportation to field trips, and provides them socialization,” Sonyia Hartwell, Vice President, RSVP Advisory Counsel.

The retired and senior volunteer program is always looking for more volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering, click this link.
