Senior Celebration turns 30

May 1—PLATTSURGH — Fall down the rabbit hole for five hours at the 30th Annual Senior Celebration on Friday, May 3.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County located at 5139 N. Catherine St., Plattsburgh.

"This year's theme is Alice in Wonderland," Raelyn Longtemps, JCEO senior outreach program coordinator, said.

"I think it'll be a great time. We'll, of course, have live music, Senior Serenaders. The music starts at 11 a.m."

Doors will open up at 9 a.m., and a light breakfast is available in the cafeteria. The opening ceremony will start at 10 a.m.

"We're going to do, of course, the national anthem," she said.

"We will announce Agency of the Year as well as Business of the Year. It should be a great time. It's going to be a great chance for the seniors to come out and just see what options are available to them in Clinton County and all the different programs. They'll going to serve lunch at noon."

The menu includes Swedish meatballs with egg noodles, side of broccoli, dinner roll and carrot cake for dessert. The suggested price is $3 for 60-plus, and $8 required for 59 and younger. RSVP to have lunch at 518-563-6180.

"Anybody who would like to have lunch at the event, they can call the Senior Citizens Council to register," she said.

Door prizes will be announced from 1:30 to 2 p.m. There will be booths from JCEO, Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, Senior Nutrition Program, Clinton County Office for the Aging, and AmeriCorps Seniors/RSVP of Clinton County.

"There might be a couple of different insurance companies, possibly some of the funeral homes," Longtemps said.

"I know that there are some individuals that even if they aren't there, we sometimes get people that will sponsor as well."

The annual event was once held at the razed Crete Memorial Civic Center and attracted droves of seniors for 11 hours to the lakeside venue.

"They scaled back a little bit to the Senior Citizens Council," Longtemps said.

"We're hoping to still get a lot of traffic here this year. I think it'll be a really great time. They always seem to really enjoy not only looking at the booths, but they always enjoy the music and the dancing. I think it will be a great lunch, too."

"We're just excited we have a couple of new booths, and we're going to have the trishaw there for the Cycling Without Age," Maria Alexander, executive director of the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, said.

"We're just very thankful for all of our sponsors."
