Selma Blair is celebrating her service dog, Scout’s, graduation from training. The actress posted multiple photos to her Instagram with the smiley English red fox lab, who sported a red service dog vest, bandana, and graduation cap to congratulate him on the hard work the two of them have put into accomplishing this milestone. The actress revealed that Scout will be a great support to Blair in managing her multiple sclerosis symptoms.

“It has been a year and a half in the making, but today my new partner, Scout, and I graduated! We are now a service dog team,” she captioned the post.

The 49-year-old was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a central nervous system disease, in August 2018. After three years of treatments (which included chemo and a stem cell transplant), the actress announced that is now in remission.

Blair revealed she worked with Doggie Does Good Service Dogs to train Scout to take on the task of helping her to manage MS symptoms. She wrote in the post’s caption that he “helps with some personal stumbling blocks and aids in my mobility.”

Blair, who has been an avid advocate for multiple sclerosis, clarified for followers that though Scout “is very handsome and friendly” he’s also “very good at his job,” so approaching her or the dog while they’re out and about can be very distracting to their work. This is true for all service dogs unless otherwise indicated by the dog’s handler.

“If you see me and Scout, and we are working (which he really always is, as am I) then give a smile but please don’t approach,” she clarified in the post’s caption. “Distractions really set me back. I am building stamina and coordination with the aid of this special dog and training!”

Famous friends and followers sent their love and support to Blair and Scout. Singer LeAnn Rimes commented, “THE MOST PRECIOUS! Congrats on your new buddy.” And actress and model Paulina Porizkova wrote, “A beautiful couple.” Actress Michelle Pfeiffer added, “So excited for you! Can’t wait to meet him!”

Blair finished her post with an incredibly positive attitude about what the future holds and well wishes to her followers for the upcoming holiday season. “I am excited for this time to focus and settle and get out of the house more. I am so happy to have him. And will share news with you as we evolve,” she wrote. “If you see me down, do not worry, Scout has me covered. Literally actually. I send you all love and happy holidays!!!!”

The actress released a documentary about her battle with multiple sclerosis in October to stream on Discovery+. The disease has caused her to experience a multitude of symptoms, including difficulty walking, speech problems, and mood changes. She has previously opened up about using a cane at events to help her while she walks the red carpet at award shows, a walking bike to deal with additional mobility issues, and even her experience shaving her head while undergoing treatment.
