Selena Gomez will forever be one of our manicure muses. She never shies away from color, embracing bright trends like “Bubblegum Disco” nails, rainbow pastel nails, and cherry Jello nails. At the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards—where she was nominated for Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, and took home the Moonman for Best Afrobeats thanks to her collaboration with Nigerian superstar Rema—she kept her fun nail streak alive with a glistening “golden glazed fire" mani.

Gomez’s ensemble was fully red-hot—from her dress down to her shoes. She matched her shiny fire glaze nails with an opulent floral Oscar de la Renta gown with fringes of flowers flowing off the bottom of the dress, and coordinating Jimmy Choo shoes, finishing the look off with some blingy diamond earrings and matching silver jewelry.

Her hair and makeup were sleek and simple but very glam—she had a perfect complexion, some pink blush on her cheeks (courtesy of Rare Beauty's Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush,$23, in Worth), and a warm toned smoky eye with matte pink-nude lips to finish it off.

Her nails were created by her go-to manicurist, Tom Bachik, who has done numerous looks for her in the past, from a hot pink set to pearl shimmer. For the “golden glazed fire mani,” Gomez had her nails shaped into a “long tapered square,” which he shaped after applying full coverage tips to achieve “a perfect manicure.”

Matching the red to her dress was of the utmost importance for the duo, so Bachik turned to his trusted PLA polish, saying, “I chose Chai And Chai Again ($13) from PLA for both fingers and matching toes.” He calls the shade “the perfect red to match both the gown and her shoes."

After applying the Base Coat ($12) first and then the red polish, Bachik applied a golden glaze iridescent shimmer on top to really “bring the fire.”

Of course, as with every manicure, Bachik finished by using the PLA Non Wipe Top Coat ($12) to “protect the look and add a deep high gloss shine.” He also noted that since the polishes and top coat used are a non-wipe formula, there is no need to remove any tacky or sticky residue after it has cured.

Once cured, it would be smart to add that extra salon touch with a nail oil for the health and strength of your nails. Regardless, you'll be ready to take home a Moonman with your own fiery set.
