Sure, you can opt for a sexy scent, or make sure your go-to lip gloss is perfectly kissable, but Selena Gomez just dropped a subtle date night tip we'll be using from here on out. Sitting courtside at a Knicks game with beau Benny Blanco, Gomez matched her lip color to her coat. Genius? We think so.

On April 22, Gomez and Blanco stepped out in New York city for a date at a Knicks game, and the first thing we noticed was the Rare Beauty founder's glossy bordeaux lip. If we had to guess, we'd say she's wearing Rare Beauty's Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm ($20) in Nearly Berry, a berry red shade with purple-y undertones.

The best part? She coordinated her lip gloss with her similarly-colored leather coat. Although it's hard to tell what the rest of her outfit looked like, peeking out under the oxblood coat was a black skirt and knee-high patent boots with a croc effect. She topped the outfit off with gold triangular hoop earrings.

The 31-year-old kept the rest of her makeup simple. She opted for a swipe of purple eyeshadow that's barely-there and smokes out at the edge of her lash line. Her complexion was glowy with touch of bronzer to sculpt her cheeks, paired with a sparkly gold highlight for a pop of shine.

The next time you head out for a date, keep Gomez's lip pairing trick in mind. Although it won't work if, for example, you're wearing a black bomber jacket—unless black lipgloss is your jam—a glossy top coat will always do the trick. However, if your coat is brown or a maroon color like Gomez's, opt for a similar berry lip color or tan gloss.
