Red nails are a classic for a reason. They're a no-brainer choice when you want to feel put together but not fussy, and will really never go out of style. That's why celebrities continue to return to the shade even with a bevy of fresh spring and summer nail trends at their fingertips. For example, Rihanna wore a fiery chili-pepper manicure to a recent Fenty party, Dua Lipa just opted for a moodier shade of red for Gucci's Cruise show, and just yesterday, Selena Gomez made red her mani of choice at the Cannes Film Festival.

On May 19, Gomez swapped her preppy street-style look for a rosy gown with a matching manicure for the premiere of her new movie, Emilia Perez. Her manicurist, Tom Bachik, posted shots of her nails on Instagram, describing them as "sophisticated and chic" and we couldn't agree more.

Thankfully, Bachik posted a closer look at the nails so we could take in all the details. He painted the actor's natural nails using the shade Rock the Runway from Essie's Gel Couture collection. The polish has orange undertones for an overall bright, poppy shade of red. A glossy topcoat gave her nails a glass-like appearance, and she paired her manicure with lots of diamond jewelry from Messika.

Her poppy-red nails felt fitting for her custom floral gown. Gomez wore a red Giambattista Valli dress that had 3D floral motifs decorating the bodice that flowed out into a voluminous skirt. Working with stylist Erin Walsh, the Only Murders in the Building star paired the dress with red Louboutin pumps.

For glam, the 31-year-old worked with makeup artist Hung Vanngo and hairstylist Renato Campora to achieve a soft-glam look. She wore her hair in soft waves and parted it to the side, giving the look a retro feel. Her makeup was light but just as glamorous—she opted for pinky-toned shades throughout her eyes, lips, and cheeks for a cohesive color palette of pink and red.
