Selena Gomez's Black Cherry Nails Perfectly Matched Her Sheer Emmys Gown

And her vampy lipstick.

It has been a busy award season so far for Selena Gomez, and we’re only two weeks in. She kicked off the season at the Golden Globes, where she wore an edgy patent leather manicure along with a jaw-dropping bright red dress. Now, at the 2024 Emmy’s, the icon is keeping her edgy streak going from her hair to her fingertips.

Gomez—whose hit TV show Only Murders in the Building was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and it’s lead Actor, Martin Short, was also nominated—attended the big night with her freshly hard-launch boyfriend, Benny Blanco, and a fresh manicure by her go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik.

On top of a cut-out all-over, skin-baring oxblood sequin floral Oscar de la Renta gown, Gomez sported what Bachik called a “Gotham Glam” black cherry manicure that exactly matched her plum red lip.

To create the mani, Bachik said, “we started off our look with a meticulous manicure, using the Rose Gold Manicure Set by Tweezerman.” He added that “shape was super important” in order to keep the focus on the dark shade. To do this, they went with “a strong natural oval-shaped nail to complement the pattern in the dress.”

Then, of course, he had to paint the cherry hue, which was a completely custom color. He says he “started with a super thin layer of PLA’s Black Gel Liner ($10) before applying a coat of PLA’s You Can’t Tell Anyone ($13), a rich deep purple.”

However, that wasn’t all. On top of this base, to create the deep dark cherry effect, he “took a small gel brush dipped into red chrome powder.” Then, “Starting down the center of the nail, I mixed the chrome into the wet gel polish and blended it out to the sides” before coating each nail with a high shine top coat. Of course, also applying Rare Beauty’s new Find Comfort Hydrating Hand Cream “for a little pampering” before Gomez hit TV’s biggest night.
