In an interview with USA Today, Selena talked about continuing music as a career after a long break. “The idea of retirement for me isn’t that I would leave forever, it is that I do see myself taking a significant break from music,” she explained. “Not personally – I think I’ll always be creating and doing music and hopefully maybe even do some side projects with people. I just want to maybe take a step back, but I’m not doing that anytime soon.”

In the intro, her little sister Gracie Elliott Teefey tells her not to worry about her boyfriends. Selena goes through heartbreak and says that she’ll be a “mess” but all the things she does outweighs the grief. She introduced the single a week before its release. She posted on Instagram, “Y’all have been asking for new music for a while. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she talked about the process about writing her new album which includes 23 tracks. “‘My Mind and Me’ is a little sad,” she explains, “but it’s also a really nice way of putting a button on the documentary part of life, and then it’ll just be fun stories of me living my life and going on dates and having conversations with myself. I feel like it’s going be an album that’s like, ‘Oh, she’s not in that place anymore; she’s actually just living life.’”
