The actress also said 'not staying in touch' with her former Disney Channel cast was one of the biggest mistakes in her life.

Selena Gomez recently made a startling confession regarding why she never stayed close to her former Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars.

While appearing on the fourth episode of the Wizards of Waverly Pod–which is hosted by two of the show's alum, Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise–Gomez was asked if she could share a little bit of insight about what she considers to be the "biggest mistake of her life."

And her answer clearly took the hosts (and viewers, for that matter) off-guard, as Gomez, now 30, admitted her biggest mistake was "not staying in touch" with her two castmates after the Disney Channel original ended in 2012.

"I felt ashamed of the decisions that I made," Gomez confessed. "I didn't want you guys to see me in the state that I was in, because a. you would have told me the truth, which terrifies me, and b. I didn't want to let you down."

"That's really sweet, and thank you for saying that," DeLuis replied. "Obviously I miss you."

Stone also chimed in with gratitude. "I appreciate you saying that too because, to be perfectly blunt, there has been times where I'm like, 'Did we stop being friends because I didn't tell her what she wanted to hear? You know what I mean?'" she asked. "So, I appreciate you being that honest."

The feelings weren't lost on Gomez, who earlier in the interview revealed she felt the most comfortable playing Alex Russo than she has any other character, crediting the comforting set and production experience to her fellow stars.

"I think I felt safe and that's a really hard thing for me to feel," she shared. "I know you guys love me for me. … You guys genuinely loved me, and that's all I could have asked for. The unconditional trust and bond we had, I miss [it] so much."

Gomez's words come backed by action, as just this past fall, in Oct. 2022, the "Calm Down" singer reflected on her roots with a sentimental stop at Waverly Place in New York City and a sweet nod on Instagram, "Where it all began."

Who knows! If fans are lucky, these two Wizards of Waverly Pod hosts may make a surprise cameo as part of the true-crime pod team in Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building.
