Selena Gomez Is Living the Sweet Life in Italy

Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini is the auteur behind some of cinema’s most glamorous moments. If you’ve seen La Dolce Vita, one of his most famous works, it’s impossible to walk by Rome’s Trevi Fountain without mentally flashing back to the scene in the film when Swedish actress Anita Ekberg gracefully wades into the baroque pool of water in a strapless black gown and white fur stole.

To this day, Fellini’s romantic version of Italy looms large in our cultural memory, and Selena Gomez is the latest person to conjure up the filmmaker's world. While on vacation in Italy (with her grandparents, no less) to celebrate her 27th birthday, Gomez took part in a classic Italian activity—a gondola ride—in appropriately romantic style. Gomez wore a plunging, lightweight dress made from a red and black polka dotted print and a rose-studded floral pattern, and she captioned the golden hour snapshot: “Me, Italy—trying desperately to look like a Fellini film.” Gomez succeeds at capturing that old world Fellini spirit—she really is living the sweet life.
