Selena Gomez is the latest in a long line of celebrities who are embracing the honey blonde highlight trend. The actor spent the weekend in Paris, where she debuted the hair transformation in a selfie shared via her Instagram Stories on November 26.

Gomez paired her freshly balayaged brunette waves with a Valentino black tweed blazer trimmed in rhinestones, a smoky green cat eye, and nude-pink lipstick. Longtime stylist Erin Walsh dressed Gomez for her whirlwind weekend in the City of Light, while manicurist Tom Bachik—also known for his work with Jennifer Lopez—painted her red manicure. Her hair was styled for the occasion in loose, lived-in waves by Philipp Verheyen.

The layered, face-framing cut seems like a nod to ’90s nostalgia, but warm butterscotch highlights are so 2023. Kim Kardashian just debuted a similar shade at the 2023 GQ Men of the Year Awards, as did Rihanna a few days before that. Even Keke Palmer took the plunge earlier this month when she hosted the BET Soul Train Awards with a fresh honey color.

It's not the first time we've seen Selena Gomez go blonde. The ’90s platinum “Nirvana blonde” she went for in 2017 marked her first major color change. She returned to the hue again in 2021 with a warm-toned heavy highlight with dark roots.

“I think I'm definitely more of a character when I'm blonde,” she said to Vogue in a September 2021 beauty tutorial shortly after going back to brunette. “I felt like I could do crazy things with my hair or try new looks with my makeup. It was just so much fun.”

“I felt so cool and edgy,” she added. “It was just a whole phase that I went through. I’m honestly missing it, not gonna lie…. Blonde Selena is not gone forever. I will tell you that.”

Clearly, she was right! Blondelena, as her blonde alter ego is known to fans, is so back.
