Selena Gomez Gave the Classic Red Manicure a Playful Twist at the 2024 SAG Awards

Old Hollywood meets modern starlet.

There's nothing quite as enduring as a simple red manicure. It's timeless yet bold and goes with just about everything, but sometimes even the classics need an upgrade. 

Take, for instance, Selena Gomez's nails at the 2024 SAG Awards. For the occasion, Gomez — who was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series along with her Only Murders in the Building costars — hit the red carpet while sporting a charming crimson manicure with a twist. Her nails, painted by celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik, weren't your standard shade of bright red, but rather, they were a colored a deep berry hue using Essie's V.I.Please.

“This was really a modern take on Old Hollywood glam," Bachik explained of the look, adding: "I took the inspiration of red nails and bordeaux toes and made it a little more cheeky by using magenta and plum – they are high energy and fun!” He first prepped her nails using his favorite Tom Bachik x Tweezerman tools before applying two coats of polish and a thick layer of top coat for a high gloss shine. Finally, he finished it all off with Essie’s apricot cuticle oil.

Selena's nails were the perfect complement to her custom shimmery white Atelier Versace dress that featured a flattering A-line silhouette, boning at the midsection, and all-over sequins. Silver hoop earrings, diamond rings, and a rust-colored lip finished off her elegant red carpet look.
