Selena Gomez Shares the Meaning Behind Her and Cara Delevingne's Matching Rose Tattoos

Back in December, Selena Gomez unveiled a back tattoo on Instagram that left fans speculating over what it could be. In the picture, posted by New York City-based tattoo artist Bang Bang, it was hard to tell exactly what the art represented. Fans guessed that it was a dream catcher or a bleeding rose.
On December 28, Bang Bang finally posted its close-up, revealing a pink-and-white watercolor rose that sits just below Selena’s neck and drips down the middle of her upper back.
“Watercolor on @selenagomez,” he wrote in the caption. “Thank you for always being wonderful🖤.”
The following day, Bang Bang posted that Selena’s bestie (and soon-to-be Only Murders In the Building co-star) Cara Delevingne received matching floral ink on her ribcage.
“I had so much fun making these tattoos— thanks for always trusting me Cara🖤,” he wrote. “fyi I didn’t tell them til the end that these were my first watercolor tattoos ever.”

This week, Selena finally revealed the meaning behind the new ink. During an appearance on Live With Kelly and Ryan, she shared that the inspiration stemmed from Cara’s nickname for her.
“She calls me ‘Rosebud’... and I’ve always wanted a rose and now I got one and I love it,” she said.
Selena did not divulge exactly why Cara coined that nickname for her, but went on to share who else she’s received matching ink with.
“I actually have multiple tattoos with people who have honestly left this significant mark on my life,” Selena continued. “I have one with [musician] Julia Michaels, and my mom, and my best friends.”
Both Selena and Cara’s watercolor roses rest below Roman numerals in black ink. Selena’s depict the number “76” and is believed to represent a close family member, while Cara’s spell out “12,” reportedly her lucky number.
