Selena Gomez Calls Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson's Engagement "Beautiful"
Just a few short weeks after Pete Davidson confirmed his engagement to Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez has weighed in with her thoughts on the forthcoming marriage.
During a recent interview with Clevver at the Hotel Transylvania 3 premiere, the star was asked what her animated character Mavis would think of Ariana and Pete's engagement. She admitted that she had no idea what her cartoon counterpart would think, but she did have some sweet thoughts of her own to reveal. “I would say that it’s amazing and beautiful," Selena said.
Of course, her thoughts on Ariana's engagement come just as previous partnerJustin Bieber confirmed his engagement to Hailey Baldwin. Following the news, some fans of Selena had created a somewhat inappropriate hashtag that celebrated how she was now "free" from Justin.
In the past, Ariana has actually reportedly defended Selena when media outlets referred to her as Justin's ex. In a 2016 interview, Ariana told Billboard, “I’ll never be able to swallow the fact that people feel the need to attach a successful woman to a man when they say her name,” Ariana said. “I saw a headline -- draw your own conclusions [on the subjects] because it’ll be so much drama that I don’t want -- they called someone another someone’s ex, and that pissed me off. This person has had so many great records in the last year, and she hasn’t been dating him forever. Call her by her name!”
The Billboard article noted that Ari was likely referring to media coverage about Selena at the time.
Selena has not yet offered her thoughts on Justin's engagement, but it's important to note that she doesn't have to. The singer is free to live her life as she sees fit, whether that includes wearing red lipstick to the gym, traveling around Italy, or donning a fashion-forward bikini.
