Rare Beauty queen Selena Gomez joined the ranks of blonde bombshells, she revealed today on the beauty line's Instagram feed. The dramatic change transformed her collar bone-skimming locks from her hallmark shade of espresso brown to a bright sparkling blonde. Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, who co-own Nine Zero One Salon and have been styling Gomez's hair for more than a decade, were in charge of the full makeover.
“This blonde is unique to [Selena], as we had to make sure there was an equal balance of cool and warm for her skin tone,” the duo said over email. “It’s an edgier look and perfect for summer.”
“She typically keeps it pretty natural, but this time she went for a big change,” her hair stylists said. They kept her roots her natural shade, which both adds edge to the look and makes the grow out process easier for anybody who has a darker hair naturally.
Selena revealed in a February Instagram live that she'd be willing to dye her hair blonde again (the last time she had lighter locks was 2017). But who knew the lift was coming so soon? The change comes right after she wrapped filming the upcoming Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, where she plays a true crime-obsessed apartment dweller who teams up with two neighbors (Steve Martin and Martin Short) to solve a murder in their own building.
It took more than eight hours and over 200 foils to lift her dark brown hair more than seven levels to a bright blonde—and Lee and Capri also shared the advice and products they told Gomez to use when caring for her new locks. Now all that's left is finding the perfect makeup to match.
