Are we seeing things or is Rita Ora totally making a mullet work?

There are many so-called “beauty faux pas” we never thought would be cool, and you can definitely count the mullet among them. But Rita Ora just proved that the polarizing hairstyle—aptly described as “business in the front, party in the back”—is surprisingly fun and totally wearable. Yes, really.

The “Ritual” singer is never afraid of taking fashion and beauty risks—after all, she has donned an actual bathrobe and towel on the red carpet—but the mullet is a tough look for anyone to pull off successfully, save perhaps for ’70s rockers and Billy Ray Cyrus. But we’re all for taking chances when it comes to hair, and she fully slayed this one in a high-fashion campaign, to boot.

Ora posted her glam new look on Instagram, showing a few behind-the-scenes glimpses into her latest campaign with Escada. The British singer serves as the face for the brand’s fall/winter 2019 campaign, and while the clothes look ultra-glam, it’s her mullet that we’re low-key obsessed with.

In a series of photos for the shoot, Ora’s bright blonde strands are teased at the crown of her head and cut short on the sides, creating a modern mullet vibe that we can truly get behind.

Stylist Orlando Pita was behind the look, giving the beauty chameleon plenty of volume, length, and chin-grazing layers on the side of her face. We don’t know who else could rock this look with such ease, but we are fully hair for it, if we do say so ourselves.

It seems her mullet was temporary, though, because Ora has since showcased a bevy of different hairstyles—her signature long blonde curls, as well as a chic wavy bob, proving that there’s no trend she won’t try.

Who knows? We might just see the mullet popping up on runways, on our Instagram feeds, and out in the world, and if we do, we’ll know it was Rita Ora who helped kickstart the cool mullet trend. Anything is possible, and that’s what makes this look so much fun.
