This past weekend, the League to Save Lake Tahoe and Saks Fifth Avenue hosted their 54th annual fashion show and luncheon featuring Oscar de la Renta’s Pre-Spring 2024 collection and raised a cool $1.2 million in support of the League’s mission to “Keep Tahoe Blue.”

With a forest of lush pines, crystal clear water, and brilliant blue sky composing a backdrop to the afternoon, the only thing glistening more than Lake Tahoe itself were the colorful looks designed by co-creative directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim that floated down the lakeside runway. Since 1999, Oscar de la Renta—first the designer himself and now the brand—has carried on the philanthropic tradition that began in 1969 with Bill Blass showing his fall collection on a plywood runway to 100 guests. What was originally a picnic-style event on the basin’s sandy shore has become one of Northern California’s most anticipated fashion events with sponsorships from Chopard, Christie’s, San Francisco’s 181 Fremont Residences, Wente Vineyards, and the forthcoming Waldorf Astoria Lake Tahoe, and a 14-lot live auction consisting of curated experiences, from a London art tour with Christie’s and an excursion through Geneva with Chopard to a one-of-a-kind gown designed in collaboration with Garcia and Kim at the Oscar de la Renta showroom in New York.

To date, over $24 million has been raised for the League’s programs to combat pollution, deal with invasive species, and develop advanced restoration initiatives that will preserve one of the world’s most beautiful bodies of water. During this year’s festivities—which included a private cocktail party honoring the event sponsors—Fashion Show Committee members Barbara Brown, J. Riccardo Benavides, Heidi Cary, Robert Damaschino, Jessica Hickingbotham, Krista Giovara, and Lindsay McConnon were joined by nearly 350 guests who arrived by boat, plane, and caravan including Eliza and Alex Bolen, Jean-Baptiste Maillard, Brandi Hudson, Karla Haynes, Joshua Morgan, Sandy Miller and Ella Qing Hou, Lisa Zabelle, Lisa Goldman, Betty Yu, Alex and Kevin Marchetti, Komal Shah, Sabina Gadecki-Rich, Carolyn Chang, Joseph Tobin, siblings Joe and Taylor Tobin, Poppy Brittingham, Jim and Katie Lee, and Matt Lituchy.
