You probably know Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler on Yellowstone—the rugged cowboy who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. (In fact, he probably prefers them that way.)

Off-screen, however, Hauser is a husband and father of three with a massive heart of gold.

So, we aren't surprised to hear that one of Hauser's passions (outside of acting) lies in helping military families impacted by loss.

Hauser is on the charity board of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF)—a nonprofit organization that acts as a source of educational support to children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and Medal of Honor Recipients. The organization aids these children with financial support in the form of college scholarships and provides educational counseling.

In a recent interview with CBS News, Hauser gave a little more insight into his feelings on the foundation's mission.

"I'm a big fan of second chances," Hauser told CBS News. "For kids when they lose a family member… it's a huge loss for them and the idea that they have a second chance to go and educate themselves."

Over the years, SOWF has garnered attention and strengthened its resources—awarding over 1,100 scholarships to date.

"Maybe it's just my way of serving… this country, the soldiers, their families," Hauser said.

Supporting SOWF isn't the first time Hauser showed his compassion for America's military. In conversation with CBS News, Hauser shed light on his past visits to the Walter Reed Medical Center shortly after 9/11. He kept communication with a few of the service members throughout the years, some who have sadly passed.

"Some are still alive and doing well. But it was a very kind of educational time for me as a young man," Hauser said.

Hauser's passion for helping out members of the military and their families began when he was as young boy. His grandfather (a World War II veteran) gifted him a marine corps ring, igniting a fire that Hauser wishes to keep lit.

"I think it's as good as it gets as a human, like just the human element of wanting to help. Just to see somebody go through that moment of like grace," Hauser said.

Hauser's kind heart and will to help others is inspiring to us all!
