Disney fans have been waiting for the debut of Yara Shahidi, 23, as Tinker Bell in the new Peter Pan remake. And today, they finally got a glimpse.

Disney+ just released the first-look trailer for the new live-action adaptation, Peter & Wendy. Inspired by the 1953 animated film, the movie follows a young girl named Wendy and her two brothers as they follow Peter Pan to the faraway island of Neverland.

In the trailer, Peter Pan (played by Alexander Molony) enters the bedroom Wendy shares with her younger brothers, Michael and John, in the middle of the night. Michael asks in disbelief, “Peter Pan?” Right on cue, the lost boy flies in and responds with a smile, “Were you expecting someone else?”

But of course, Peter is not alone. He has Tinker Bell (Shahidi) right by his side.

Jude Law, 50, also makes his terrifying debut as the evil Captain Hook. At one point in the trailer, Hook emerges from a dark cave, with the iconic hook. Dressed from head to toe in a battered pirate outfit, Law is nearly unrecognizable as the sinister captain, from his eerie voice to his sharp black beard. “Wendy Moira Angela Darling,” he says in the vid. “Where is Peter Pan?”

Back in September 2020, Disney announced Grown-ish star Shahidi would take on the role of the magical fairy. On Instagram, the actress celebrated the news by sharing a fan-made drawing of a Black Tinker Bell. “Thank you for all of the love. It, truly, means so much to me,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m excited for this next adventure!”

Be sure to mark your calendars because Peter & Wendy premieres on Disney+ on April 28, 2023.
