Former White House Photographer Pete Souza to give talk at BCC

Bristol Community College presents kicks off its Wolfson Speaker Series with a talk featuring former Chief White House Photographer Pete Souza.

Souza will be speaking on Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m., in the Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center (H building) on Bristol’s Fall River campus, 777 Elsbree St.

He served as Chief Official White House Photographer for President Barack Obama for all eight years and an Official White House Photographer for President Ronald Reagan.

This event is free and open to all, and it will be followed by a book signing.

Souza’s best-selling book, “Obama: An Intimate Portrait,” will be available for purchase, or guests can bring their own copies for signing.

Upcoming concerts at Narrows Center for the Arts

There are a couple of upcoming performances that you might want to check out at the Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., Fall River.

Rotch-Jones-Duff house, Preservation Society of Newport County team up for virtual talk

The Rotch-Jones-Duff House and Garden Museum and the Preservation Society of Newport County will co-present a virtual talk on Tuesday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m.

This presentation will feature two members of the society’s Curatorial Fellowship Program: Dani Zhang and Isla Stewart. Zhang will explore the meanings in the decoded imagery of previously unknown Chinese artists’ works held in the PSNC collection. Stewart will speak on Americans’ changing relationship with animals as demonstrated through decorative arts and literature of the Gilded Age. Her research is related to the society’s upcoming summer exhibition, “Wild Imagination: Art and Animals in the Gilded Age.”

In lieu of a fee, a suggested donation of $10 will be accepted online during this virtual event.

‘Sinfonia Portuguesa’ with the Brockton Symphony Orchestra

The Brockton Symphony Orchestra is celebrating the musical traditions of Portugal, Brazil, and Spain in its season finale.

Music Director John Masko and the orchestra present ‘Sinfonia Portuguesa’ on Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m., at Christ Congregational Church, 1350 Pleasant St., Brockton.

This performance will feature “Brazilian Fanfare” (Clarice Assad); “Symphony No. 3 in C major” (Joly Braga Santos); and “Concierto de Aranjuez” for solo guitar (Joaquin Rodrigo), with internationally acclaimed French guitarist Jérémy Jouve.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors. Children get in free, as do students with an ID.

Craft a flower yearbook at Westport Woods

From buds to bloom, craft your own flower yearbook on Thursday, April 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Westport Woods Conservation Park, 573 Adamsville Rd.

Explore the beth methods for documenting the life cycle of a plant, and how to capture seasonal changes.

Learn how to take specimens, create pressings, and prepare a flower yearbook.

This first session will focus on budding and early-flowering plants.

Learning outside the classroom: Zeiterion Schooltime series goes on the road

The Zeiterion Performing Art Center is taking its Schooltime series on the road, with presentations at New Bedford High School and UMass Dartmouth. This is a chance for students to experience the power of the performing arts. The next performance will be on Tuesday, April 23, at 10 a.m., in the Bronspiegel Auditorium at New Bedford High School, 230 Hathaway Blvd. “The Mayhem Poets” is for grades 6 to 10.
