See Reese Witherspoon’s Reaction to the “Legally Blonde” Easter Egg in “Wednesday”

Netflix’s Wednesday is full of easter eggs and hidden details that pay homage to past Addams Family iterations and cultural phenomena. But the best reference? The one made to Legally Blonde and the one and only Elle Woods, obvi.

In episode seven of the Jenna Ortega-led series, Wednesday agrees to go on a date with Jericho teen Tyler Galpin. Upon entering Crackstone’s crypt (a setting perfect for our soft goth queen), Tyler asks Wednesday for her feelings on scary movies. “Prepare to be horrified,” he teases, as he presses play on the projector and Hoku’s “Perfect Day” begins to ring out.

Naturally, us rom-com aficionados recognize this upbeat tune as the start of Legally Blonde, one of the most iconic movies of the early aughts — but to Wednesday Addams, it marks the beginning of a bonafide horror film. “That was torture. Thank you,” Wednesday remarks after the movie wraps.

Of course, Elle Woods herself had to respond to the hilarious scene. (What, like it’s hard?)

On December 3, Reese Witherspoon — who starred as the bubbly Harvard Law student — posted a reaction video that read, “That moment when you recognize the ‘horror film’ in Wednesday.” Reese laughed and mouthed “Oh my god” as the scene played out and Wednesday watched Legally Blonde in visible discomfort. “Give Elle a chance, Wednesday! 😂,” Reese captioned the video.

Wednesday Addams and Elle Woods couldn’t be more different, and we’re so here for the pop culture crossover.
