Depending on where you're spending the holidays, there's a decent chance you won't be wearing anything sleeveless or strapless due to cold winter temperatures. It's unclear where Janelle Monae is spending her late December, but it is clear that she's prepared for tank tops and tube tops should the weather permit, having given her underarm hair a vibrant makeover with the help of a stylist and colorist Nikki Nelms.
On Monday, December 23, Janelle shared a video giving her followers a closeup of her underarm and writing in the caption, "What color did @nikkinelms dye my pits red, pynk, or orange? The winner gets a treat. Also when you have extra dye left extra parts get dyed and I love it. 💗🧡❤️👅👄💋🧠." As what sounds like the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood theme plays, the singer and actor is seen stroking her armpit hair — which, from the looks of it, is definitely a neon pink (or "pynk," as Monae put it, referring to her song of the same name — and we get a little peek at her happy face before the short clip ends.
Nelms shared the video, too, writing, "Me: Raise ur hand if u’d like to be my last client of 2019... @janellemonae Arm Pits: 🙋🏽♀️."
Both fans and famous friends are loving the vivid look. Kehlani commented, "I wanna touch it," while Thandie Newton posted, "🔥🔥🔥." Of course, there were a few haters — as is often the unfortunate case when a person chooses not to shave and has the audacity to be seen — with one commenter writing, "This is just disgusting come on.. we dying pubic hair now. 😷," and another wisecracking, "I thought this was a rash 😖." But for the most part, followers are feeling it.
If you're feeling it, too, to the point that you might like to try it, you may want to visit a pro instead of attempting it on your own — especially if you're not starting off with naturally blonde armpit hair. Stylist Caitlin Ford has previously told Allure that a look like this almost always starts with bleach, which can be even more irritating to underarm skin than the scalp.
