Having trekked through the festival circuit since its journey began at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, Sony Pictures Entertainment has now released the official trailer for Butcher's Crossing.

From director Gabe Polsky comes a frontier epic set in the 1870s about an Ivy League drop-out who travels to the Colorado wilderness, where he joins a team of buffalo hunters on a journey that puts his life and sanity at risk.

Based on the novel from 1960 by John Williams, the film stars Nicolas Cage, Rachel Keller, Xander Berkeley, Fred Hechinger, Jeremy Bobb and Paul Raci.

With just 18 reviews, the film sits comfortably at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics had contradictory opinions ranging from calling it "too inert and too superficial" to "a severely principled Western tale".

The trailer features all the Western iconography, evoking the genre through its sweeping landscape visuals and gritty characters, where Cage blends in seamlessly.

Butcher's Crossing is coming to select movie theaters on October 20.
