See Matt Damon’s New Tattoo Honoring His Late Father

The movie star got some meaningful new ink.

Actor Matt Damon is rocking some new permanent ink, and it has a very personal meaning.

The star's tattoo artist, Daniel Winter, also known as Winterstone, posted a video of the tattoo process on his Instagram, captioning it, "Got to tattoo an idol of mine! Such a cool job to have great experiences like these. #mattdamon And Mr. Damon tattooed me! His first time tattooing! A small universe… aka a dot!"

The video starts with a photo of Winter tattooing Damon's upper right arm before the clip transitions to a close-up of the tattoo, the word "Nomad" in script.

Winter's Instagram post also shows part of what must've been Damon's first experience tattooing, with the actor's wife, Luciana Barroso, and some other people around them.

The tattoo artist explained Damon's tattoo and its meaning in his caption: "The tattoo has great meaning! For his late father We tattooed NOMAD which was his fathers boat and also Says DAMON backwards! Pretty rad tattoo with so much Meaning!"

Damon's father, Kent Damon, passed away in December 2017 from multiple myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, at age 74, after battling the disease since his diagnosis in 2010.

At the time of his father's death, Damon was promoting the release of his film Downsizing.

He spoke about his father's illness during an interview with Extra not long before he died, saying, "It's been a slow, unfolding, my dad's sick, so that's been a process we're going through. We'll take any prayers you got, so throw 'em up there."

Along with his new tattoo for his father, Damon also has ink dedicated to his wife and four daughters, Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella.

Winter has inked quite a few big names–including Sophie Turner, Joe Jonas, and Lady Gaga–also these tattoos, with Damon's daughters' names located on his upper right arm near the new "nomad" tattoo. For his wife, Damon has the name "Lucy" tattooed nearby as well.
