See How Kate Middleton Celebrated St. Patrick’s Day
Kate Middleton knows a thing or two about St. Patrick’s Day spirit.
The 37-year-old Duchess of Cambridge rang in the holiday the way only a royal can: with a pint, an enormous dog and a custom Alexander McQueen green coat-dress festooned with a shamrock brooch.
Middleton and her husband, Prince William, 37, kept it festive by attending the 1st Battalion Irish Guards St Patrick’s Day Parade at Cavalry Barracks yesterday in Hounslow, England. It’s an event the royal couple attends every year, as the Duke of Cambridge was named Colonel of the Irish Guards in 2011. But this year was one for the books.
The Duchess of Cambridge avoided any pinches from Prince William in a green military–inspired custom Alexander McQueen coat-dress with gold buttons and peplum detailing for the occasion. She made the expertly tailored number even more festive by pinning a gold shamrock brooch on her left shoulder. The brooch is reportedly a royal family Cartier heirloom which previously belonged to the Queen Mother (aka Queen Elizabeth’s mom).
Middleton accessorized the ensemble with black gloves and her go-to black Gianvito Rossi block-heel pumps. She topped the look with a green beret-like fascinator. She also made a splash with opulent green tourmaline and green amethyst drop earrings by Kiki McDonough.
The duchess kept up her tradition of presenting officers and warrant officers in the 1st Battalion with shamrocks. What could be more St. Patrick’s Day–esque than that? Perhaps the pints of Guinness she and Prince William enjoyed while greeting soldiers and their families?
Or, maybe it was Domhnall, the extremely tall Irish Wolfhound she met who serves as regimental mascot of the Irish Guards.
