The Outlander set is no stranger to animals, and in season five another furry actor is joining the fold. Earlier this week, the show's official Twitter account introduced the newest member of the Fraser family, a gray cat named Adso.

"We have a very im-purr-tent casting announcement... who could it be?!" teased the account, before posting this adorable photo of the kitten with actor Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the series:

"Clan, meet our wee ADSO!" reads the caption, which was quickly followed by another tweet, which reads: "Not to be dramatic but we'd already do ANYTHING for him. 😻"

Those who have read Diana Gabaldon's The Fiery Cross, the book which serves as the source material for the fifth season of Outlander, know that Jamie finds Adso on the road, and gives him to Claire as a pet (and a keen mouse-hunter). The kitty is named after Jamie's mother's cat, which in turn was named after a monk.

Here's an excerpt from the text of Claire and Jamie discussing the cat's name:

“Adso,” he said, positively. “Call him Adso.”

“What sort of name is that?” I demanded, twisting to look back at him in amazement. “I’ve heard a good many peculiar Scottish names, but that’s a new one.”

He rested his chin comfortably on my shoulder, watching the kitten sleep.

“My mother had a wee cat named Adso,” he said, surprisingly. “A gray cheetie, verra much like this one.”

Actor Sam Heughan is clearly already enamored with his new co-star, sharing multiple pictures of the kitten on Instagram.

Here's one post in his feed, with a simple emoji for the caption.

Unfortunately, aside from these sneak peeks, fans of the series won't get to see the furball for months. While production is already underway, a premiere date has yet to be set for Outlander's fifth season.
