From Town & Country

Tucked inside a trailer promoting all of HBO's upcoming shows is our first preview of My Brilliant Friend, the network's television adaptation of Elena Ferrante's much-beloved Neapolitan Novels.

Between a promo for new episodes of Succession and a sneak peek of the third season of Insecure is a two-seconds-long clip of the forthcoming drama centered around the lifelong friendship of Elena and Lila, two women who grew up in Naples, Italy just after World War II.

Fast forward to the 39 second mark in the video above to see Ludovica Nasti, the young actress who will play Lila, calling up to Elisa Del Genio, who plays Elena.

Back in March of this year, HBO announced that Del Genio and Nasti had been cast in the iconic roles. Almost 9,000 children reportedly auditioned. Margherita Mazzucco and Gaia Girace will play Elena and Lila as teenagers. The first photos of the production were also shared at that time.

In March of 2017, it was officially announced that all four books in the series: My Brilliant Friend, The Story of a New Name, Those Who Leave, and Those Who Stay, and The Story of the Lost Child, are headed to the small screen, and the New York Times reported that Italian director Saverio Costanzo will direct the 32-part series. According to the Times, Ferrante "was also expected to contribute to the screenplay."

The first season of eight episodes was previously expected to debut in the fall of 2018, but an official premiere date has yet to be shared publicly.
