See the Cozy Spot Where Prince William and Kate Middleton Had an Afternoon Tea Date

Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had a whirlwind day in Cumbria, England. They sheared sheep! They went for hikes! They chatted with crowds! And they even managed to sneak in an afternoon tea at a quaint local hotel.

"It was quite a short break. They came and had afternoon tea with us at the Inn on the Lake," a spokesperson from Inn on the Lake in Ullswater told Hello. “The couple were served a full afternoon tea in one of the luxury Lake View bedrooms at the hotel, with views across Lake Ullswater.”

Later, the hotel posted two Instagrams of the royal visit. One showed Prince William and Kate Middleton at the entrance to the hotel. Another was of their helicopter taking off from the grounds.

What’s on the traditional afternoon tea menu? Finger sandwiches with egg and chive mayonnaise, cheddar cheese and sweet pickle, cucumber and crème fraîche with black pepper, as well as honey and orange roasted gammon accompanied with Hawkshead piccalilli.

Then, a healthy dose of plain and fruit scones with butter, jam, and clotted cream, along with a “savoury treat” (the suspense).

To top it off? A selection of confections: mini trifles, homemade patisseries and macaroons.

William and Kate had their choice of nine teas, from English Breakfast to Earl Grey and Chamomile.

Cumbria is located in England’s bucolic Lake District. It’s a spot that Middleton loved to visit as a child. In fact, she recently revealed that some of her favorite childhood memories involved “boulder hopping” in the area. Perhaps the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will return to Cumbria in the near future so Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis can do the same.
