See Classic Board Games as Tiny Playable Miniatures

Classic games like Jenga and Connect Four were a huge part of our lives when we were young. I can’t even count how many times I played Scrabble or Chutes and Ladders growing up. So you’d assumed we had pretty much exhausted every possible way there was to enjoy them. But it turns out you can make a big impression by making them smaller. Much, much smaller. That’s what one miniature builder has done. He has transformed those longtime playroom staples into incredible tiny replicas. And you can still play them.

Well, maybe not his tiny Twister. You really need a full-size version to play that game.

Model maker and production designer Filipe Miranda creates teensy weensy recreations of iconic games. (Which we first learned about at Laughing Squid.) They can be held in the palm of your hand, and many require tweezers if you actually want to play them. And you really can play them, no matter how small.

Like how his miniature Scrabble has little tiny tiles that can be carefully placed into equally tiny squares on the board.

Even his tiny Rubik’s Cube can be twisted into a colorful mess. But while it looks delightful, this is the small version we dread the most of all of these teeny toys. It has the potential to frustrate in two major ways. You can fail to put it back together like a regular Rubik’s Cube. Or you can constantly drop it because it’s so hard to hold.

But if you’re looking for a more adult miniature game, you can also try out his tiny beer pong. It’s really more about the novelty rather than drinking. And also about yelling at your teammate who hasn’t hit a tiny cup in 15 throws.

Make sure you check out the rest of Miranda’s Instagram page too. You’ll find a lot more of his incredible miniatures there, including many that celebrate famous pop culture moments. To paraphrase Shakespeare, though they be but little, they are fierce. And they have us ready to play some old favorite games for the first time in a long time.
