Who can forget a young Julia Roberts working behind the counter of a Connecticut pizza joint as she led the Mystic Pizza cast? The classic movie, which came out in 1988, was released before Roberts secured her more pivotal roles in revered films like Steel Magnolias (1989) and Pretty Woman (1990), but remains iconic in its own right.

The story follows Julia Roberts as Daisy, Annabeth Gish as her sister Kat and Lili Taylor as Jojo, three young women and longtime friends employed at Mystic Pizza, a fixture in their coastal hometown. Each one of the girls is on a different path: Kat is focused on her education, working multiple jobs to support her upcoming first semester in Yale's astronomy program. Jojo is engaged to Bill, her longtime fisherman boyfriend, but is questioning her decision to marry him. Daisy, on the other hand, is content with life as it is, garnering male attention from those in her town and enjoying life as best she can.
