You *need* to see the back of Lady Gaga’s updo at the Oscars 2023

When you think of Lady Gaga, there’s a lot of impressive achievements that come to mind: her countless awards as a singer, incredible performances in movies like A Star is Born and House of Gucci and let’s not forget that she also runs her own beauty brand, Haus Labs. Then, there’s her red-carpet moments.

The star is known for wearing some seriously epic looks at awards shows (meat dress, anybody?) – and the 2023 Oscars were no different. Wearing a gorgeous black gown with sheer panelling (and a very, very low back), the singer looked incredible with a stylish updo.

Hairstylist Frederic Aspiras slicked her hair back, and while it may look like that’s it from the front, there’s so much more going on at the back. Frederic actually gave the singer a French plait, which ended at the nape of her neck. It reminds me of primary school playground plaits – but way more high fashion, of course.

Posting about the look on Instagram, Frederic revealed that he used the Joico JoiGel Firm, £14.30, ‘for added control and hold while braiding’. He also used a very clever hack, spraying a toothbrush with hairspray to smooth down any flyaways.

As if her beautiful hairstyle wasn’t enough, the actor also wore an incredible makeup look, sporting a suuuper intense smoky eye with a bright, glossy red lip.

I don’t know what I love about this look more: the makeup, the French plait or the way her deeper roots blend into her blonde hair. To quote Gaga herself: love, love, love.
