First look photos of the Wicked Part One movie just exploded onto the internet via director Jon M Chu's Instagram, and honestly the anticipation is just too much. It's the first time we've seen leading ladies Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in stills from the movie as Elphaba and Glinda respectively, and while both are teasing snaps that don't give it all away, we'll take the scraps that we can get.

The picture of Ari's Glinda is a serious effort in zooming, as its a shot from miles away. Thanks to her light hair though, we can still get a good nosy and it seems they've gone for a big, soft and bouncy curl, over the buoyant ringlets often used for the stage productions. Pulled back in a half-up style, and falling down her back, the lengthy blonde doesn't appear overly bright, in keeping with the broody, gritty look of the film.

Her dress, however, is a dazzling pink in the dark shot, with innumerable layers and layers of ruffle, and we can already tell that visually, this is going to be a cinematic masterpiece.

Though much closer, Cynthia's shot is equally hard to decipher, thanks to her dark hair. She can be seen turning away from the camera, with what looks like Elphaba's trademark long black plait already undone into falling waves, but still pulled into a low ponytail.

Set for release in November 2024, director Jon captioned the snaps; "You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz. 🌪️🫧🧹"

He then re-posted the same two snaps on Instagram with the caption; "Green & Pink. It always starts with green and pink." This was when we realised that each shot is almost entirely brown, grey and black, with only the addition of either green or pink for colour. What did we say... cinematic masterpiece.

We already knew it was perfectly cast but getting to see these two greats in character is just making it so real! How can we possibly wait until November?!
